A little more about me: Hello! My name is Jackie Nowak and I am in my 16th year as a science teacher. I began my teaching career as a high school science teacher (9 years - Cedarburg High School and Oak Creek High School). But I am most happy to say that I am on my 7th year here at PVMS and I'm loving it! I absolutely love science and am thrilled to help students see how it plays a role in their lives. Beside having a passion for teaching science, I also enjoy spending time with my family, participating in outdoor activities/sports, reading, and learning about health and nutrition.
I have a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Science Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and a Masters in Education - Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University (Illinois).
My teaching philosophy is to provide opportunities, support (emotional, intellectual, physical, and social), and the tools necessary for every student to become a responsible contributing member of society focusing on career readiness skills. It is my goal to empower students every day and to help them see the importance of learning. Teaching and learning is a journey in which both the student and myself embark on together. As we begin and work our way through this journey I will be there to support all students. Metacognition, inquiry, discussion, reflection, critical thinking, opportunity for questioning, using data, and reading are important tools I use to facilitate an active learning environment which ultimately leads to growth and success for students. I believe this approach helps make the subject matter more relevant to the student allowing for deeper connections to their own life experiences.
In choosing to become an educator, I believe it is my duty to be the best ethical, academic, and personal role model I can be. I am prepared and excited for what the school year has to offer, and am dedicated to helping students continue to learn, change and grow.
Go MUSTANGS!
