MHS Mathematics Teacher Email Phone: (262) 363-6200 x25268 Hello! I am in my 30th year at MHS and have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Mukwonago area. Originally from Minnesota, I moved to northern Wisconsin in the mid-1970's where I stayed through graduation (in 1990) from Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua/Woodruff, WI. I attended Carroll College and received my Bachelors Degree in 1994 at which time I had a job lined up in the Waukesha School District. Near the end of the summer of 1994, I interviewed for a better job here in Mukwonago and while spending one of the last days of the Labor Day weekend with family at Great America, I was offered the job. Originally thinking the school would be a smaller one more similar to the one I had graduated from, imagine my surprise when I found out we had 1800 students!
My wife and I moved out here in 1997 and have two kids who attended and graduated from Mukwonago schools. My son recently graduated from Carroll U and is now employed "in the real world" while my daughter is a junior at Carroll studying to be a nurse. They continue to be sources of immense pride! Like all of you we actively seek opportunities to get outside (camping, golfing, etc) and get away during the summer months when schedules allow. Once an avid outdoorsman, I now get out on a lake or into the woods only a handful of times a year!
For math class, I encourage all my students to have their Chromebook, a folder and math notebook, a calculator, their completed homework assignment and a writing utensil. These items on a daily basis will help make success so much easier! If you ever have a question about anything related to your son or daughter's progress in class please just send me an email. This year I'll be teaching Advanced Algebra, Algebra Semester Two, and Precalculus. In all three classes, so we are all on the same page, I do not check to see if the students get answers correct on their homework. That is their job as we will always spend enough time discussing problems, displaying answers or sharing our answers orally. I believe homework needs to be a time that allows kids to take risks, to be creative and most of all, to not be afraid of being wrong. Their homework or "Growth/Practice" grade is based upon completion and effort. Please don't assume your child is getting 100% of their homework correct if they have a 100% homework average. That would only indicate your child is doing a great job of being responsible and diligent. I hope this makes sense for everyone.
I very much look forward to another fun-filled and educational school year in 2022-2023. Please work with me to help your child enjoy a successful year in math class. Have a great day!
Mr. Haasser
