Greetings! My name is Ryan Bice and I have the privilege of instructing your child in AP Government and Politics, U.S. History, and/or Sociology this year. This is my 14th year working in the Mukwonago High School Social Studies department and my 15th year of teaching. My district responsibilities also include serving as Faculty Advisor for the National Honor Society and coaching boys golf. I received my Bachelor's degree in History from Carroll College and my Master’s degree from Cardinal Stritch University.
Sociology is a semester-long college-prep elective course. The major emphasis of Sociology is to attempt to understand human behavior as it occurs in group situations. Since we are all social creatures, nearly every aspect of our existence is based upon membership in one group or another. It begins with family, peers and schools, and continues into organizations and even media influences.
US History is a year-long required course for juniors which helps students develop a clearer definition of our collective American identity. This course charts the historical development of the economic, political, and social systems of the United States and is more than a collection of dates and names. This course is an analysis of the forces (many of which are still operating today), which shape American society. By examining these forces, starting with the Civil War through the Modern Era, we will develop a clearer and more personal definition of what it means to truly be “American.”
The AP Government and Politics course involves the study of democratic ideas, balance of powers, and tension between the practical and ideal in national policy making. Students analyze and discuss the importance of various constitutional principles, rights and procedures, institutions, and political processes that impact us as citizens.
National Honor Society recognizes students who not only excel academically, but also exhibit leadership, service and character in their lives.
My classroom expectations are simple; they are the Mukwonago Way: be on time, be respectful, be responsible and be safe.
I believe that education is truly a partnership between teachers, students, parents and the community. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at bicery@masd.k12.wi.us or (262) 363 – 6200.
