The Role of the School Social Worker
School Social Workers serve as a vital link between school, home, and community. They collaborate closely with students, families, and staff to assess all barriers that may be affecting a child's educational adjustment or engagement in learning. School Social Workers are accessible to all students to create individualized interventions to resotre social, emotional, behavorial, and academic areas. In these areas, School Social Workers meet with students individually or in a small group setting. Referring and supporting families to find resources such as outside mental health agencies, housing, food, and transportation etc. are a key part of the role. School Social Workers understand that home, school and community are all connected and working together as a team is an imperative part of student success.
