Dear Families of Big Bend Elementary School,
We have had a great start to the school year at Big Bend! Students have come to school ready to learn and displaying proper respect towards themselves and others. Our staff is working hard creating new learning activities for our students. I have had the opportunity to observe many classrooms and review a great deal of student work. As a result of these experiences I have been able to see that there is quality education going on at BBES. We will work hard to insure that this quality continues throughout all that we do!
In addition to providing a strong focus on the academics, we also work very hard at making our school a safe, caring environment for both our students and staff. While we continually get positive feedback regarding the climate in our school, we want to continue to make a special effort each year to reduce bullying behavior in our school. Our goal is to create a greater awareness within our students, staff and parents as to this behavior and what we can do to eliminate this in our school environment while recognizing and rewarding positive behavior through our B.A.R.K.S. (behavior, attendance, respect, knowledge, safety) program.
Over the course of the school year, our counselor will meet with students in each grade level to discuss bullying, sharing with them the types of ways bullying occurs and what we want our students to do should they be in a situation involving bullying.
As parents you can support our efforts in reducing bullying in our school in the following ways: 1) Reinforce with your child that bullying behavior is wrong and they need to treat all people with dignity and respect. 2) Contact school personnel should your child share with you that he/she has been bullied in our school. We want to know about this information and we will do whatever we can to make this situation better for your child.
We have had a great start of the new school year and we are confident that this will continue throughout the year. With students, staff and parents working together, great things will continue to happen for students in our school. I appreciate the opportunity to work with your children on a daily basis!
