“If music be the food of love, play on.”
- William Shakespeare
Welcome to our Orchestra!!!
In the Mukwonago Are School District, students have the opportunity to be a part of a nationally recognized instrumental program that fosters life-long learning skills, social skills, as well as knowledge and skills universities and employers are seeking in the 21st century. We emphasize a diverse musical education by integrating alternative styles and improvisation with a traditional based training.
I believe in a student centered classroom which builds a sense of community and responsibility. Music is understood by all languages and cultures and therefore, music has the ability to connect us with each other, the community, and to the world.
Students in 4th grade are eligible to join our Strings program. Every 4th grader is introduced to the stringed instruments in the fall. Meeting once a week for a 20 minute lesson, the students will achieve a fundamental understanding of their instrument and during the course of the year, will meet as a large ensemble to prepare for our Spring Concert.
Students are encouraged to continue in orchestra in the 5th and 6th grades. This orchestra meets for two full rehearsals and one 20 minute lesson per week. During these years, we develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of music and performance.
The High School Orchestra is a performance based course. We seek out many opportunities to perform for each other and local communities. Along with our MHS concerts, we perform for the annual "Midnight Magic" festival in Mukwonago, students participate in an orchestra festival held at UW-Whitewater where students perform and receive a "Master Class" with the university professor, a performance of the "National Anthem" at a Milwaukee Bucks game, and for our annual "Pops" concert. All students participate in Wisconsin's Solo and Ensemble Competition, and we perform for graduation every year as well as many other opportunities.
