Personal/Social Support

School counselors are professional educators with a mental health perspective who understand and respond to student emotional needs. Counselors are available in times of crisis, liaisons to community resources, and advocates for student’s emotional needs as they strive for success in school.

Personal/Social Support can also be provided through:

  • Individual and small group counseling
  • Teaching positive coping strategies
  • Teaching effective social skills
  • Teaching positive problem-solving and decision making skills 
  • Mediating peer conflicts
  • Substance abuse education/support
  • Grief support
  • Education in understanding self and others

www.nsteens.org - Website with a great deal of internet safety tips for teens as well as parents. Check out the video's and true-life stories. This is a very informative and helpful website for any teenager or parent of a teenager who uses technology.

 www.pacer.org/bullying - A great resource for students, parents, and teachers. This site has a wealth of information regarding bullying, and what we can do together to take a stand. Students can find real life stories, videos, and even sign a virtual petition.

http://www.stompoutbullying.org/ - Another awesome website with prevention and awareness resources for students and parents. Log on to find out about leadership opportunities or ways you can promote kindness and put an end to bullying.
