Hunger Pack-a-Thon

It is that time of year again that the MHS Key Club, National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes are teaming up with the Mukwonago Rotary Club and Simple Hope Organization to host our fifth annual Packathon. The date is Saturday February 20th from 9am until noon at the High School. A Packathon is a service learning opportunity for participants of all ages (3-103) and exceptionalities. Participants work in a team of 6-8 people in an assembly line fashion and pack small packages of nutritious food. That food is then sent to Tanzania to help feed a sponsored school/orphanage andthe Mt. Merubush community of Tanzania. Before packing the food participants get to hear from the founders of the organization to learn about the area of Tanzania that is in need and after the pack participants are able to try the food they worked with and visit a hands on "Tanzania village" display to see what life is like for those who are living in Tanzania. There is also an "East African Trade Shop" that is set up in the area as well. Participants do pay a fee of $25 or $15 for students(if the people could afford the cost then they wouldn't need us to send them food). That money pays for the food, transportation costs of the food and other projects in the area with the goal of creating economic independence so these communities do not rely on us for their subsistence. All fees and donations are tax deductible. If you are interested in participating you can register at http://simple-hope.org/packathon-reg..html. If you would like to help publicize with a poster in your classroom, fliers for your studentsorposters inyour school building please let me know and I can forward those over to you. For more information please visit http://simple-hope.org/or e-mail me for additional information. Thank you everyone for your time and support in this project. Mark Montanye MHS Key Club Advisor
