CES Art Teacher Email Phone: (262) 363-6286 x22079 Ms. Marnie Phillips About Me: I have been teaching in the Mukwonago School District since 2000. I have taught at Section, Eagleville Charter, and Prairie View Elementary Schools. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1999 and Cardinal Stritch Univeristy in 2010. I am also a graduate of Mukwonago High School. Philosophy: Our society is a visual experience. Art education teaches visual literacy. Students encounter visual forms of art everyday as producers or consumers. Students need to know about the visual arts now and throughout history in order to better understand the arts themselves, and the world around them. The world is full of visual images and symbols; students need to develop the ability to understand them. Visual literacy is a vital ingredient in lifelong learning. Each art class of Clarendon Avenue Elementary School may contain future artists: architects, industrial designers, art historians, movie critics, museum curators, medical illustrators, gallery owners, set designers, photographers, fashion designers, art teachers, magazine publishers, computer graphic artists, consumer product designers, advertisers, or craftspeople. Everyone is a consumer of art, whether it is fine art, fashion, furniture, automobiles, or everyday products for the home and personal use. Requirements: Students need to bring a smock, i.e. an old shirt, or wear old clothes to art class. Smocks should provide adequate coverage of clothing. Projects can become messy. Students will be warned of this possibility. The art teacher cannot be held responsible for soiled clothes.
