Library Skills Instruction:

Skill instruction begins at the Kindergarten level and continues on a weekly basis through sixth grade.  Skills are introduced, practiced and reviewed.  Instruction includes:

  • Book care

  • Parts of a book

  • How our various collections, fiction, nonfiction, paperback, audio-book, and holiday, are organized

  • Internet safety

  • Using the on-line catalog, Destiny, to search for books, locating books by call number

  • Reference works, including  dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanacs, and atlases, on-line resources, electronic encyclopedias, websites

  • SUPER 3 and BIG 6 research techniques

  • Introduce a variety of authors and books for curricular and recreational reading

  • Presentation tools  (Web 2.0 computer applications)


Books checked out are always due on their library day, regardless of when they check them out. They are allowed to reserve items currently out and renew items they would like again. Students may exchange books anytime outside of class visits, but the books will always be due on their library day. We do not have fines when items are overdue.

Grades K-3 Check out weekly. They may check out up to 2 books.
Grades 4-6 Check out weekly. They may check out up to 2 books.

Lost or Damaged items:

If an item is lost or damaged, a bill is sent home. All checks are made payable to Mukwonago Area Schools.
